　This was part of a large series called ‘Character Building’ where I took famous buildings and brought them to life through animated characters.

「GIF」という表現の作品を作るに至った背景やきっかけ、思いがあればお教え下さい。

　僕はアニメーションに若い頃からとても興味を持っていて、ディズニー・ピクサーの映画を見て育った。だから、GIFは静止画から始まって、ちょっとした経験の一部では終わらない本格的なアニメーションに取り組むまでの自然のなりゆきなんだ。

　I’ve always been interested in animation from a very young age, growing up watching Disney Pixar films, so GIFs were the natural progression from still illustrations into full blown animation that ended up becoming more than just a part of the journey.

「GIF」という表現手法をどう捉えていらっしゃいますか。

　アイデアの中には、静止画では伝えることのできないものや、アニメーションとしてシンプルに表現できるのに複雑になりすぎるものがある。僕が好きなのはエンドレスに再生される点。もう一つは始まりと中間点と終わりを考え、最後どのようににつながって単純で簡潔な形で繰り返し再生されるかの過程を考えることを強いられる点。これは自分のストーリーテリングのスキルを確かめるのにとても良い方法なんだ。

　There’s some ideas that you just can’t communicate in still images, or you have to over complicate it when it could be much simpler as an animation. I love the looping aspect as well as it forces you to think about a beginning middle and end and how they are all going to link up and repeat in a super simple and concise way. It’s a great way of testing your storytelling skills.
